Photojournalist Vernon Young Jr. seeks to express life through his camera by giving a voice to the voiceless in much the same way a painter, poet or musician evoke feelings and reactions through their respective media.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Vernon considers himself a passionate visual storyteller and a great portion of his work depicts his love for people and the human condition. Experiencing his dynamic portraiture, award-winning peak action photojournalism, and unique perspectives of diverse areas of the world give the effect of being immersed in the moment.
His ultimate goal is to educate and encourage viewers through still imagery by turning his feelings into images. His passion for photography makes him sensitive to the beauty that is all around, capturing the essence whomever or whatever is in front of his lens.
His work has been published by CNN, USA Today, The Washington Post, Business Insider and others.
When I was 11 years old I was introduced to photography. I was led to view life differently through a lens and it has allowed me to deliver my compassion for the world through stills. Since 2004, I've lived in multiple states and countries, including Syracuse, N.Y., where I believe my mind was opened to a greater meaning of what life is about as a student at the Newhouse School of Communication. With 15+ years of working as a photojournalist, I've come to realize that artistic expression is not just what I love, but who I am. I'm a passionate artist telling a story about life through great people.
